CAMPO Artfest 2021
WE NEED NEW
CONCEPTS
Pueblo Garzón
28-29 December
We are currently living
in fast paced times with unpredictable changes that keep us incapable of
understanding and enunciating what we are experiencing or what is yet to come.
Language must be updated rapidly to put our time into words. But, what if the
creation of a neologism preceded reality to transform it?
It was with this statement that INST, the cultural initiative of MAPA architects, called for the invention of neologisms capable of naming new realities, behaviors, desires, and architectures. The result was a dINSTionary with 125 neologisms from 72 individual and group authors from 17 countries.
One year later, the dINSTionary was exhibited in CAMPO Artfest 2021 in Pueblo Garzón. Reflecting on the theme of the event, On Progress, the neologisms were displayed in such a way that visitors could build their own dINSTionaries with the concepts they most resonated with. The installation was held in the new MAPA FIELD STUDIO in Garzón, on a wooden table that bridges the ideas of the public and the private by passing through a brick wall and thus allowing new relationships between the backyard of the studio and Pueblo Garzón.
The project had the participation of Jackson Araujo (Brazil) in the soundscape design, and Lost Fantasy in the design of upcycling garments, both inspired by the concepts of the dINSTionary.

‘INTIMIDADE SUSSURRADA’
What can a soundscape created
digitally and remotely say about the physical space where the artistic action
takes place? From this perspective, Jackson Araujo, Brazilian communicologist and
sound-stylist – immersed in the image of a place he doesn't know and imagining
different sensations that sound layers can awaken in those who experience them
– created a collage of sounds of urban chaos, pianos, broken glass, radio
stations, dolphins, birds, horses, children, storms, typewriters, sheets of
paper being handled, in search of an ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian
Response) experience, promoting feelings of positive affection and
interpersonal connection. In all, the desire for auditory-tactile synesthesia,
an intimate sonic space shared by the listener and the whisper.

‘WHITECYCLING’
Whitecycling is a capsule
collection of recycled white clothes, made by Lost Fantasy. The designs are
born from the work carried out by MAPA+INST, the creation of new concepts and
the relationship with the installation environment: Garzón.
Lost Fantasy is an emerging Uruguayan clothing brand led by Florencia Sacarelo. Her pieces are divided into two lines of work: national production and upcycling, united by the design of clothing prints, serigraphy and sublimation.
National production allows the generation of timeless stock for the demand for the most utilitarian products such as T-shirts, hoodies, totes; while upcycling regenerates disused garments, raising awareness about our ways of consumption while creating unique and unrepeatable beauties.
